As well as the exemptions that are already given by the law, it is possible for an employer, education provider or other trader to apply for an exemption to cover their own particular circumstances. The Equal Opportunity Tribunal can grant exemptions from provisions of the South Australian Equal Opportunity Act and the Australian Human Rights Commission can grant exemptions from provisions of Commonwealth anti-discrimination laws.
In general, exemptions are granted for a limited time and conditions may be imposed.
