Legal Help
The Commission provides free legal advice and minor assistance through its telephone advice line and face-to-face appointments. Specialist advice can also be provided on Centrelink, migration and child support matters.
When services beyond advice and minor assistance are required (e.g. representation at court), legal aid is available for eligible people on matters specified under the Commission's guidelines.
The Commission has specialist Family Law and Criminal Law divisions. Lawyers from these sections provide legal representation for those people who qualify for a grant of legal aid.
The Commission's Community Legal Education section provides legal education for community workers and runs a legal education program for new migrant communities. They also publish a range of publications, including the Law Handbook Online which is a comprehensive guide to the law in South Australia.
