Financial Ombudsman Service Australia - Bushfire Information

The Insurance Council of Australia has formally declared the Pinery fire to be a catastrophe, which has an effect
on some of the rights a consumer has under the Insurance Code of Practice. In particular, claims paid to insureds within one month of the claim can be reviewed up to 12 months after finalisation – this right exists despite any release signed by the insured. In addition, the ICA will have additional staff available at recovery centres to assist affected people.
