Courses & Legal Training
The Legal Services Commission runs a number of courses and training programmes to enhance access to justice for all South Australians.
Our free community education courses include free talks for the general public and regular Family Law Information Seminars by videoconference in Adelaide and country areas. These talks and seminars are subject to the availability of staff and a minimum audience of twenty people.
For groups and individuals who would like a more in – depth understanding of the law the Law for Community Workers course is a TAFE accredited course aimed at community workers. The course covers many practical legal topics and forms two electives in the Certificate 4 in Justice Studies. The course is held at the Adelaide Institute of TAFE and in some country areas by videoconference. Enrolments for the 2008 course will start in November 2007.
We also provide specific legal training courses and workshops (Consultancies, Law Handbook Live and Law for Non Lawyers) to suit the needs of community organisations, government departments and businesses.
The Commission has a special project to provide legal education to people from new and emerging communities. Since 2004 the Family Law and Culturally & Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Communities Project has worked with migrant communities to meet their legal education needs. In June 2007 the Commission received crime prevention funding for twelve months to undertake a new project focussing on African young people and the law, called Legal Education and Awareness Project (LEAP)
